Thinking of buying the Lego Minotaurus game for Christmas, I’d like if I may to introduce it to you.

minotaurus linkLEGO Minotaurus has been voted in the top 10 christmas toys for this year by the British Toy Retailers Association and is set to be one of the biggest toys of Christmas 2009. The series marks a world first in that the rules are not set in stone, and the players can customise the game by changing various aspects. This adds a lot of repeat play appeal that you just don’t get with other board games.

Each player has control of a team of knights -  blue, red, yellow, or white. They must then guide each member of their team through a labyrinth of walls, to reach the secret hiddle temple in the centre. However, things are not quite that simple – players can move walls to block their opponents’ heroes, and there’s also the mythical Minotaur roaming around trying to stop you.

This fantastic game is very simple to understand and play, but it also forces children to think. They can choose from a range of strategies, all of which have their own strengths and weaknesses, and which may be applicable at different times during play. For example, you can choose to move walls to block your opponents, or you can try to make your way through the maze as quickly as possible. Alternatively you could move the walls into the path of the Minotaur, perhaps defending yourself from his advances while sending him in the direction of your opponents.

The building phase of the game is almost as enjoyable as actually playing it. In fact, it teaches children a number of important skills, such as motor skills, number and shape skills, symmetry, and more. It’s also great to see them cooperating to get the board built.

To summarise  this is an extremely versatile, enjoyable board game. It is great fun to play, and will teach your children a number of useful skills. Best of all, because it can be adapted in several ways, it is sure to be a favourite toy for a lot longer than your average board game.
